Entry from – The Place of Divine Intimacy
Each moment holds power: it has the ability to leave its imprint for light or darkness. Each moment matters: we must become aware of the ripple effect that our seemingly meaningless actions might have. Each moment can affect the Kingdom.
The effects of individual moments can go unnoticed, therefore making our choices and reactions in those moments seem rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But little things like taking time for someone in need, giving a word of encouragement, or reacting with patience when someone is unkind can have significant long-term impacts. Everyday actions, no matter how small, play a substantial role in our endeavors to truly love one another. To give a cup of water, say a kind word, to live graciously toward one another, all the ordinary moments have a powerful effect on those around us. To live out our lives as lights has a magnitude of effects.
We’ve all experienced unkindness in life, such as being slighted, treated unfairly, taken for granted. Hopefully, we have also interacted with those who are Christ’s light and through them we’ve experienced the simple blessings that kindness brings. The smallest smile and modest, kindest word can significantly impact our souls and lay the groundwork for our next encounter with love. May these experiences fuel our hearts to encourage others and cause us to know that our decisions to act in love have a compound effect.
The unseen rewards of impacting hearts for good energize us to continue seeking to master our character, outlook, and attitudes. The power of God working through us to produce goodness in turn creates more blessings. We need to focus on the prize that glorifies Him and works towards His Kingdom. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16, NIV). May we be so incredibly influenced by God’s love that we become known as ones who love so deeply that we bring light into every situation. Our actions both big and little can overcome darkness.
